One real advantage in using this board instead of email lists or email groups, is that you if you wrote something that did not make sense or after thinking about a post you do not like it, is that you can go back and modify, edit, or delete your post. For people like me this is a great feature, all my typing errors or mistakes can be corrected or even deleted.
You have to be a registered user however to use this feature, sorry guests.

The main advantages, I find, are that anyone can easily jump into a discussion started weeks before. New information can be added on to previous topics, and of course, posts can be categorised and moderated with ease.

I agree as well with all of that. But I had a question; how is moderation easy? I have visited certain boards where "jerks" have posted awful stuff (guests). Sure you can band the person at that point and delete the message but is not the damage already done?
We have not had that problem, Audhubillah, we will not.
With yahoogroups, you can moderate posts before they are posted, but they lack the other advantages you and I mentioned here in this thread.
I guess nothing is perfect.

True. If you allow guests to post, then I guess you run that risk. Posts can be deleted here, threads locked and members can be banned.
The other boards which I've seen are out of control, seem to be so because the moderators are not active and quick to catch trouble makers. The boards are left on their own, and that's when they go haywire.
What I meant earlier about the board being easier to post was in relation to having a number of different moderators, each responsible for their own boards. So it's easy to define duties without too much of a burden on one person. With email groups, it seems not so easy to divide these duties among admin.

Yeah, I agree.
So far, there is little work as a moderator on this board, then again we do not have hundreds of members to worry about it.
What about setting up a site as Bint Mohammed mentioned.
What do you think of that?

do you mean in relation to 'protecting the posts'? would having our own 'paid-for' site mean that it will be safe and secure and can never be shut down?

I meant in general, but of course specifically that, for that is the reason she suggested it.
Is that something "we" would like to do?
I do not know the cons involved.
What is there to lose?

I'm not quite sure. Would it be on the same proboards, but just with the 'paid' option, or would we have to move the whole thing elsewhere?
