Ex-Guantanamo Detainee On The Verge of Death After Abuse By Russian FBS
The 'War on Terror' is about to claim yet another innocent as one of its victims as Rasul Kudayev is slowly facing death after severe torture and abuse by the Russian FBS. False allegations by an anonymous source claimed that Rasul was behind the siege on Nalchik on 13th October 2005. Despite having searched his entire house, they have not found any evidence linking him to the attacks.
A government appointed lawyer has confirmed that Rasul has been beaten so badly that he cannot speak or even raise his head in acknowledgment. His family have been told to prepare for the worst by the doctor who examined him. After having been tortured during his time in Kandahar and Guantanamo Bay, this most recent abuse has placed him in a critical state.
In order for any chance of survival, Rasul needs urgent medical treatment, the cost of which is far too great for his family to afford. In the case the worst should happen, it is crucial that money still be raised in order to pay for his lawyers' fees. Plea From Family of Double Amputee Guantanamo Detainee
Abdullah Al Anazi is a 26 year old male from Saudi Arabia imprisoned at the Guantánamo Bay prison facility since 2002. Mr. Al Anazi is a double amputee who currently depends upon a defective pair of prosthetic legs provided to him by the United States military. Because the prosthetics do not fit properly, Mr. Al Anazi suffers from constant pain and infections caused by defective rings where the prostheses attach to his body.
In an open letter to the American people, Mr. Al Anazi’s family, whom he has not seen since first leaving for Afghanistan, make an impassioned plea for information regarding their beloved son’s condition and ask why he has been held for so long... [More...]

Detention in the Name of the War on Terror: Violations of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law
by Asim Qureshi
Guantanamo Bay , Bagram Airbase, Abu Ghraib and an innumerable number of unhallowed locations now serve as the very evil which the international community has worked so hard to rid the world of. No longer does it seem that the Geneva Conventions and those strong moral words stemming from the international treaties on torture have any binding effect on the manipulative powerful who wield the law to suit their global war. This work has been produced in order to analyse the law that is binding upon the UK government with all the obligations and liabilities that stem from that law. What will be clearly established, is that no matter how hard any government attempts to hide or manipulate the strong and deep set norms of international human rights law, they can never escape liability from non-compliance. A Guantanamo Diary: Part 3
Though the detainees can write to their families and receive mail back, it all has to be declassified on the way in and out. Sometimes letters arrive late or redacted. A group of lawyers are working with the detainees to challenge their detention in federal court - but sometimes the attorneys find themselves responsible for much more than their clients’ legal cases. This morning, the last of WNYC's Marianne McCune's reports: Sarah Havens and Doug Cox of the law firm Allen and Overy are asked to fill in the gaps that friends and family cannot.
A Guantanamo Diary: Part 2
Marianne McCune gave a recorder and mic to two New York attorneys with the law firm Allen and Overy - to take listeners along as they represent 11 Yemeni detainees. Yesterday, they took us as close as they could to the prison itself. Today, they take the recorder to Yemen to meet the families of their clients.
A Guantanamo Diary: Part 1
The Center for Constitutional Rights are among the few who've gotten to know prisoners - and to review the government's evidence against them. WNYC's Marianne McCune asked two New York attorneys to take a microphone and recorder along as they work on their cases.

by Leonard Rubenstein, Christian Pross, Frank Davidoff, Vincent Iacopino
Rubenstein et al contend that US military officials' efforts to promulgate ethical guidelines are inconsistent with international principles of medical ethics and, if unanswered by the medical community, establish a dangerous precedent. They believe that the vast majority of military physicians support international principles of medical ethics and do not wish to practice under untenable circumstances.
