FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT, Dr Abdullah Robin
I am a scientist and today I am going to tell you how I became Muslim. I am going to tell you that I left the superstition and fantasy of evolutionary dogma and became not only a Muslim but also a better scientist and thinker. I did this by seeking a way of life built upon a correct intellectual basis.
Western opponents of Islam claim that Islam is against scientific progress and even that belief in the Creator is flawed because it is unscientific. They say that Islam has no place in an age of reason and science and that man evolved from apes.
The Western way of life dictates that science and not faith should be the only measure of truth and falsehood.
People expect science to answer all life’s questions for them. They expect these answers to be absolutely correct and they think that science should give them a happier longer life. People expect science to show man his place in life doing away with the need for Allah and his system of life, which is Islam.
Yet scientists are far from certain even about the everyday matters that affect our daily lives.
Consider for example, BSE, which is short for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, better known to many of you as “mad cow disease.”
It began in 1985 on a farm in Kent when the first cow went mad as its brain was destroyed by scary “prion” particles smaller than a virus. Then in 1994 the first human was identified with another prion disease called nvCJD (New variant Creutzfeldt- Jakob Disease). By the end of the century 200,000 cows had succumbed and 84 people had died of these mysterious new prion diseases in Britain.
It was assumed that BSE had jumped from sheep to cows due to contaminated food supplies. It also became accepted fact that the human nvCJD epidemic of the 1990s was caused by eating BSE contaminated beef in the 1980s.
Government policy was based on these scientific facts, which many of you probably believed to be true. However, when the sheep disease was fed to cows as part of a scientific experiment - they did become sick but not with BSE! So where did BSE come from? No one knows!
Worse still up to 40% of the British population could be silently incubating nvCJD in their brains. We are not sure any longer if nvCJD is derived from BSE or if BSE is derived from nvCJD, which had previously been misdiagnosed as Alzheimers disease. We do not even know for sure if humans catch nvCJD from eating beef.
If we scientists do not even know what is happening in our own countryside, under our very noses? How then can the disciples of Charles Darwin claim that man evolved from apes as a fact millions of years ago - in the past? BSE can at least be studied –now - in a laboratory but no one was able to watch apes evolve millions of year ago.
Yet believers in evolution make their claims with fanatical certainty. They are like the Medieval Christian Priests of the European Dark ages a thousand years ago. Their speculative philosophy of history does not even deserve to be called scientific theory according to philosophers of science such as Professor Alexander Rosenberg.
The “new age” Priests believe that life evolved in a pool of slime millions of years ago and swam in the seas and then crawled onto land and grew legs and then evolved from amphibians to reptiles and then from reptiles to mammals and then to apes and then finally to humans.
