The impact of the revelation
Serialisation of book : From darkness to light Chapter 2 (part ii)
When Rasool-Allah (saw) also went to the hill of Safa and proclaimed loudly: "O Bani Fihr, O Bani Adi" calling all the clans of the Quraysh. Then he proceeded to say: "Tell me, if I were to inform you that some cavalry in the valley were about to attack you, would you believe me? They said; "Yes we have not experienced any thing except truthfulness from you" Then he said: "I am a warner to you before a sever chastisement" Abu Lahab shouted angrily: 'Tabban Lak' - Damn you - the rest of the day. Is it for this that you gathered us? After this Abu Lahab and his wife were strongly condemned in the Quran.
This response of Abu Lahab was a landmark in the passage of events that happened to Rasool-Allah (saw). Prior to this the Quraysh would remark whenever he (saw) passed by "Here is the son of ‘Abd al-Muttalib who is spoken to from the heavens." Following this incident the Quraysh had no time for pleasantries and compliments. Islam could not be ignored. The rulers in Makkah realised that Islam was to wreck the whole way of life. The started to respond in exactly the manner in which Waraka (the cousin of Khadijah) had predicted. The Call was now met with a wall of hostility.
