Shabina the young sister who took her school to court because they would not allow her to wear the jilbab has lost the case. the Law-Lords decided that the school was within their right to refuse Shabina if she persisted in wearing the jilbab. To be honest I was not surprised, at all, about the judgement. I was saved from this surprise and the shock because of my familiarity of western hipocricy.
The school argued that they did nothing wrong because their dress code was adopted after consulting Muslim scolars and leaders. Apparently, these scholars have told the school that the shalwar kameez was sufficient and Islamic.
so, the question arises who are these "great Islamic, invincible scholars", what are their names and does anyone know them? Did these "scholars" make it clear to the school that their are different views on the issue of womens dress, in Islam and the position taken by Shabina was an Islamic position?
Although, the judgement of the Law-Lords was not shocking, I must admitt the attitudes of the Muslims was qiuet disgusting. The Prime Minister of the comical and illusionary Muslim Parliament, Siddiquei, declared that it was "a victory for fundementalists". Others, claimed that Shabina was being un-reasonable and was "rocking the boat", and making things difficult for the Muslims.
There is no winning with these moderate Muslims. On the one hand they argue that the Muslims should be more intergrated, and when some one seeks their right they say "hush", don't rock the boat. Whats wrong with these Muslims? Why do they think that they just came of the boat yesterday? When are they going to free themeslves from this mental slavery?
