Australia Tells Shari’a Muslims to Get Out

December 15, 2005 – After Muslim riots began over last weekend, Australia has decided to push back. Prime Minister John Howard and his Administration have made it clear that they will not put up with Muslim extremists.
In order to avoid terrorist attacks, the Australian government is now targeting and cracking down on Islamic radicals. Treasurer Peter Costello said that radical Muslim clerics will be asked to leave and deported if they do not accept Australian values and parliamentary law. Costello said to the Islamic radical contingent:
"If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Shari’a law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you. I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that this is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Shari’a law, and have the opportunity to go to another country which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option."
Education Minister Brendan Nelson followed with: "Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well—then they can basically clear off.”
