"The month of Ramadhan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for mankind and
clear proofs for the guidance and Al-Furqan." [TMQ Al-Baqarah: 185]
As-Salaamu Al-Aiykum Wa-Rahmatullahi Wa-Barakatuhu
Brothers and Sisters,
The blessed month of Ramadhan is upon us; the month during which the gates of Mercy are wide open, the gates of Hell are shut and the Shayateen are chained up.
Abu Hurairah narrated that Muhammad (saw) said: "A blessed month has arrived. Observing fasting in it is mandated on you (the believers). During this month, the gates of Paradise will be opened and the gates of Hellfire will be closed. The evil ones (Shayaatin) will be handcuffed.” (Nisai)
It is a month chosen by Allah (swt) as a month of fasting; an act of Ibadat that Allah (swt) made special to Him.
Abu Hurairah narrated that Muhammad (saw) reported that Allah (swt) said in a Hadith Al-Qudsi:
"All the actions of the son of Adam are for him except fasting. It is for Me, and I will reward him for it. Fasting is a shield. On the day you fast, do not use obscenity, nor yell at others, nor act ignorantly towards them. However, if anyone abuses you verbally or attempts to draw you to fight with him, say 'I am fasting' two times." Then Muhammad (saw) said, “I swore by the One (Allah) in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the breath of the faster is sweeter to Allah on the Day of Judgment than the scent of musk. The one who fasts experiences enjoyment twice: he is pleased when he breaks his fast, and he is pleased when he meets his Maker" (Muslim)
It is the month in which the reward of the obligatory acts is multiplied and the recommended actions are elevated to the reward of the obligatory acts. So let not neglect and laziness overcome us in gaining closeness to Allah (swt), His Mercy and the bountiful reward that waits in this blessed month.
Abu Sa'eed narrated that Muhammad (saw) said, "If a servant of Allah fasts a day for the pleasure of Allah, He will distance his face from the hellfire, in the equivalent of that day, which, in the sight of Allah, will take seventy years to cover." (Bukhari, Muslim)
Brothers and Sisters know well that Ramadhan is the month that contains a night that is better than a thousand months. Allah (swt) says:
"Verily! We have sent it down in the night of Al-Qadr. And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr is. The night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months" [TMQ Al-Qadr: 1-3]
A night upon which Allah (swt) made the reward of he who spends that night in prayer, reciting Quran and total devotion to Allah (swt), forgiveness for all his past sins.
Abu Hurairah narrated that Muhammad (saw) said, "A blessed month has arrived. Observing it in fasting is mandated on you (the believers). During this month, the gates of Paradise will be opened and the gates of Hellfire will be closed. The evil ones (Shayateen) will be handcuffed. In it there is one night, during which worship is better than worship in a thousand months. Whoever is denied its blessings has been denied the biggest blessing." (Ahmed, Bayhaqi)
It is a night upon which Allah (swt) made the reward of he who spends that night in prayer, reciting Quran and total devotion to Allah (swt), forgiveness for all his past sins. Imam Bukhari narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said "He who spends the night of Al-Qadr praying in total devotion, his past sins will be forgiven."
Brothers and Sisters, during this blessed month as we fast, we would like to remind and encourage both you and ourselves of the following:
Reciting the Quran
Abdullah Bin Omar narrated that Muhammad (saw) said: "Fasting (Siyaam) and the Book of Allah (Al-Quran) will intercede for the servant on the Day of Judgment. The fasting will say: 'O, Allah, I denied him nourishment and sex during the daytime. Let me intercede on his behalf', and Al-Quran will say: 'I denied him sleep during night time; so let me intercede on his behalf.' So Allah will allow them to intercede on his behalf." (Ahmed)
Aisha (ra) narrated that Muhammad (saw) said, “Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have twice that reward.” (Muslim).
Umamah al-Baahili narrated that Muhammad (saw) said, “Read the Qur’an, for verily it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions.” (Muslim)
Taking the Suhur (Morning Meal)
In reports by Bukhari and Muslim, Anas narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: "Take your early morning meal for in that is a blessing."
Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "Suhur is a blessed meal, do not neglect it even if it is a mouthful of drink. For Allah and the Angels bless those who observe it." (Ahmed)
In the books of Bukhari and Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: "The people will always remain in a good state of mind and body (during fast) so far as they hurry in the breaking of the fast and delay the sahur."
Iftar and Feeding the Fasting
In a report by Anas, he said: "The Prophet (saw) used to break fast with fresh, ripe dates rutub, before he offered his Maghrib prayer. If they were not available, he would break with regular dates, or drink water if there were no dates." (Abu Dawud Tirmidhi).
Muhammad (saw) said, "Whoever will invite a person who is fasting to break the fast with him will get the same reward as the one who was fasting and there will be no reduction in his reward either." (Tirmidhi)
Character
Muhammad (saw) said: "Fasting is not only to restrain from food and drink, fasting is to refrain from obscene (acts). If someone verbally abuses you or acts ignorantly towards you, say (to them) 'I am fasting; I am fasting.' (Ibn Khuzaimah)
He (saw) also said, "Whoever does not give up lying and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)"
Tirmidhi reported that Allah's Messenger (saw) said, "When you smile in your brother's face, or enjoin what is reputable, or forbid what is objectionable, or direct someone who has lost his way, or help a man who has bad eyesight, or remove stones, thorns and bones from the road, or pour water from your bucket into your brother's, it counts to you as 'Sadaqa'." [Tirmidhi]
Visiting the Sick
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "If anyone performs wudu well and pays a sick-visit to his brother Muslim seeking his reward from Allah, he will be removed a distance of sixty years from Hell." [Sunan Abu Dawood]
Maintaining Relations (Silat al-rahm)
He (saw) also said, "The one who severs his ties with his relations will not enter Paradise."
Giving Sadaqah
Ibn 'Abbas narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (saw) is the most benevolent among the people. His benevolence increases markedly during the month of Ramadan when the angel Jibreel meets him every night of Ramadan, to rehearse with him the Holy Qur'an. The Messenger of Allah (saw) was more charitable with his good possessions than the moving winds that bring torrential rain." (Bukhari)
Performing Umrah
The Messenger of Allah (saw) said to a woman from the Ansar, "If it is Ramadhan, make Umrah for indeed it is equivalent to Hajj." [Nisaa'i].
Attending the Masajid and the congregational prayer
He (saw) said, "And bring glad tidings to those who walk in the dark towards the mosques, that they shall be in total light on the Day of Judgement."
The Messenger of Allah (saw) also said, "He who purifies himself in his home and then walks towards a house from among the houses of Allah in order to perform one of the duties decreed by Allah, one step of his will remove a sin and another step will elevate him one degree."
He (saw) also said pertaining to the virtue of group prayers: "The group prayer is more rewarding than the individual prayer by twenty seven degrees."
In the nights of this month there is much opportunity for repentance and supplication, both collectively in the Taraweeh prayers and also individually in the other prayers such as Salat al-Tahajjud and Salat al-Tasbeeh and undertaking Ihtikaaf (retreat) in the last ten days of Ramadhan.
Brothers and sisters, certainly the month of Ramadhan is one of distinguished superiority.
Allah (swt) has allowed each and everyone of us to witness again the month of Ramadhan, that we may benefit from it by drawing closer to Allah (swt), by making sincere repentance, and seeking His Mercy and Forgiveness, and all Praise is to Allah (swt) who gave us life when we were dead, will give us death when we were alive, and will once again bring us back to life after we die.
Indeed the one who fails to benefit from the impending month of Ramadhan is indeed one of the losers, and deserves to be distanced from Allah (swt).
Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet (saw), climbed upon the Minbar and said: "Ameen, ameen, ameen". So it was said, "O Messenger of Allah (saw), you climbed upon the Minbar and said, "ameen, ameen, ameen"? So he (saw) said "Jibreel came to me and said, 'Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and does not have his sins forgiven and so enters the Fire, then may Allah distance him, say ameen" So I said "Ameen" [Ibn Khuzaimah, Ahmad, al-Baihaqi: Sahih].
Brothers and Sisters, we enter Ramadhan with the desire of gaining Allah’s Bounties, but we cannot be removed from the difficulties that encompass our beloved Ummah, wherever she resides and our obligation to resolve these issues once and for all through establishing the Khilafah.
Brothers and Sisters, indeed all praise is to Allah (swt) that this Ramadhan heralds many signs of the impending return of the Khilafah, Insha-Allah!
The Islamic Ummah is increasingly turning to Islam and she is increasing in her yearning for the return of the Khilafah state. And she is increasingly responding to the call of the da'wa carriers who are working to establish the Khilafah and restore the rule and justice of Islam. The thrones of the tyrant rulers in the Muslim world are shaking and beginning to crumble whilst the brutal and hypocritical western foreign policy lay exposed.
The reward of the obedience in this month is great and it is the best time to focus one's efforts, and energy and sacrifices to establish the Khilafah on the way of Prophethood, and the best time for us to seek solace in Islam, seek tranquillity in Iman and seek delight in ibadat. In the nights of this month there is much opportunity for repentance and supplication.
We ought to therefore combine the qualities of worshippers with those of the thinking politicians, thus combining politics, guardianship and worship together, so that we may be like the Sahabah of the Messenger of Allah (saw) and like those described by Allah (swt) as,
"Those who turn to Allah in repentance; who serve Him and praise Him; who wander in devotion to the Cause of Allah; who bow down and prostrate themselves in prayer; who enjoin good and forbid evil and who observe the limits set by Allah, so proclaim the glad tidings to the believers." [TMQ At-Tauba: 112]
Oh Allah! May our fasting and good actions be accepted. Let us gain the countless bounties that are stored in this blessed month and gain Your Pleasure.
Oh Allah! Make the Quran, a pleasure for our hearts, the light of our sight and the banishment of our sorrows and a lifting away of our worries.
Oh Allah! Make us from those who maintain the Halal as the Halal and the Haram as the Haram.
Oh Allah! Give us an Iman that is unshakeable and a strength that is unbreakable.
Oh Allah! Make us sincere in this noble cause which we strive for and allow us to witness the rise of the Khilafah upon the ashes of Kufr.
And may peace be upon our Master, the Messenger (saw), and upon his family and companions, and those who follow him with the best of blessings until the day of Judgement.
