Re Article: Vilified over sip of bubbly
THE state's most promising young Muslim leader has become the victim of a hate campaign because she celebrated with a glass of champagne after being named NSW Young Australian of the Year.
Iktimal Hage-Ali, 22, has been targeted on Muslim websites for drinking alcohol and declining to wear the traditional hijab.
Her anonymous attackers condemned her after she drank the champagne to toast her award at the NSW Art Gallery last Thursday.

I was going through some online comments made against this article and following is one made by Terry who is from the USA. A muslim sister by the name of Tanya responded to Terry's comments beautifully, masha'Allah! (pls see below)
Congratulations and good will to you Ms. Hage-Ali! Hopefully women worldwide may one day be able to enjoy the same freedom and courage you have to make your choices in life. To escape from under the male domination that has kept women ashamed of the beauty and wisdom that our divine maker has blessed them. To share and enjoy the life and love of a relationship that is not managed by fear and abuse, especially not abuse that is cloaked in the name of any religion.

To terry Smith from the USA ¿To share and enjoy the life and love of a relationship that is not managed by fear and abuse, especially not abuse that is cloaked in the name of any religion¿ As a a muslim woman I am FREE from any abuse because of MY RELIGION ISLAM.- It is because of my islam that I don¿t live in fear of a husband that comes back every night to bash me until im black and blue and then rape me, like the neighbour across the road. .Alcohol is the leading cause of domestic violence cases. It is because of islam that I am empowered as a woman and not sexually exploited by man, I dress for God and NOT for man . Islam liberated women 1500 yrs ago. We have enjoyed the freedoms and rights of keeping our last names as we are not the property of our husbands, we have had the right to vote before the womens liberation movement in the last century, the right keep our own money, choose who I want to marry, have the right to inheritance, run a business, the right to be protected and maintained by our husbands regardless of how rich I am . A woman is not to be portayed as a sex objcet , used and abused to sell alcohol or bubble gum. Thats what you call freedom! A Muslim woman is liberated not oppressed Terry smith , that¿s why I am one of many converts to islam and that s why islam is the fastest growing religion in the world amongst women.
