The Importance of Taking the Islamic Ideology as a Whole
from www.ramadhan.org
Qala Allah [swt] :
"Then is it only part of the book that you believe, and do deny part? What is the reward for those among you who do so except disgrace in this life? And on the day of judgement consigned to the most grievous penalty" [tmq 2: 85]
Today we find that many Muslims are calling for the Shariah to be implemented whether we look to Algeria, or Turkey or the various Islamic movements working for the revival of the Islamic Ideology throughout the Muslim World. And we as Muslims we should remember that we are one Ummah bonded by the same aqueeda which gives us the same objective in this world to establish the worship of Allah [swt] by establishing His Deen. As Allah [swt] orders us in the Quran:
"And they have not been ordered except to Worship Allah by establishing the deen purely for him"[tmq 98:5]
So we must take the Islamic Ideology as whole taking not only its creed, or only prayer, or certain individualistic aspects, but rather the whole of Islam. Its solutions to man problems, and its method to implement these solutions practically in the society and not take from anything other than the Islamic Aqueeda as its source for ideas or rules.
However today we find that, many Muslims either through their ignorance or their adoption of thoughts of those people who came in the period of decline have started to do the exact opposite ant they feel that they can revive the Ummah on that basis.
Towards the end of the Uthmani Khilafah we found people started asking questions which weren't heard of in the past, such as "can Islam cope in today's reality" or "did Islam define a ruling structure". And ideas such as Islamic democracy or that "Islam allows any ruling system", started to appear. Insha Allah I wish to highlight certain erroneous ideas which you will hear people call for, and answer certain questions that are commonly asked. After which I wish to show how the Islamic System is unique system taken from the Quran, the Sunnah of our noble prophet [saw], and from the practice of the Sahabah [ra].
As rasoolAllah [saw] stated, taraktum feekum ithnayn lan tadullu in tamasaktum bihima kitabullah wa sunnati, I have left amongst you two things, which if you adhere to you will never go astray, the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. He [saw] also stated, alalikum bisunnati wa sunnatul khulafa ar rashideen, Upon you is my Sunnah and that of the rightly guided khulafa'a.
Amongst one, which you will hear expounded, is this idea of Islamic Democracy. First of all I wish to look at the reality of this idea and where it emanates from. It emanates from the idea of secularism i.e. that religion shouldn’t have any role to play in running life's affairs. So man should decide for himself what is good and bad, so he is free to do as he wishes. So man is sovereign so he makes the rules and laws. Abraham Lincoln described it as "the rule of the people, by the people, for the people". So the masses will elect certain people, who supposedly represent their views who will sit together in a parliament, as in this society or in Jordan, or America or throughout the rest of the "free-world", and make laws around protecting mans freedom.
So in America recently they are having debates on the issue of people having private handguns. This is after a child went into a school and killed several children and a member of staff. However both parties are arguing their case from the angle of their belief in freedom. There are those who are stating that it is individuals right to own a rifle, therefore it should be allowed. Others will argue that it is the individuals right to feel secure in society, and this should be protected, so ban handguns. The democratic process is there for the capitalists to argue which benefits them more and so most if not all states have allowed it.
The very idea of democracy therefore has come from an alien belief so we reject it. Also it is there to protect the belief of secularism and freedom, according to the interest of the elite. So it can never be used rationally to implement Islam, rather by its very nature it is only there to ensure that the Islamic solutions are not implemented. But that the laws that emanate from freedom are. It is a manifestation of mans sovereignty and not that of Allah. So we see in the reality that those who feel a threat from Islam will ban the Islamic movements as in Jordan. In Turkey for example only yesterday I was reading Mesut Yilmaz's statement that the government and the army were both working hard to ensure that Islam does not pose a threat to Turkey. When the so-called Islamic Refah party came into power these are some of the points that had to adhere to:
All of which clearly contradict Islam in a definite manner
showing that the democratic system will always ensure that the secular creed and solutions will be implemented.
A clearer example of this would be that of Algeria. When the FIS where on the verge of wining the elections the government backed by the army and France stepped in. They ensured that they couldn't come into power. The Guardian summed up the role of the democratic process, and regime in simple manner, "sometimes you have to use undemocratic means to secure democracy".
What we can learn from this are two main points. That firstly, the democratic process is only there to protect the system and implement the beliefs of secularism, freedom and democracy itself i.e. mans right to make laws. Secondly that the whole notion of man making laws and hence the democratic system contradict the very basics of the Islamic Aqueeda. Allah [swt] informs us :
"The Rule is to none but Allah, He declares the truth, and He is the best of Decision Makers" [tmq 6: 57]
So it is not only impossible and silly to go through the democratic process and try to implement the Shariah of Islam, but also Haram and disobedience to Allah [swt].
Having stated that then the question arises, if Islam and the Islamic solutions to peoples problems can not be implemented through the democratic process, then what is the system of Islam or rather the method to do so? And did Islam define a particular structure? As some may claim that it didn't. Ali Abd Raziq in his book entitled al Islam wal Usul ul Hukm stated that Islam did not even talk about ruling and also that the existence of the Khilafah was only a historical phenomenon! It is interesting to note that this book was written in 1924 just after the demise of the Uthmani Khilafah!
Another example is the claim made by some such as the author of "Political concepts of the Sunnah" that rasoolAllah [saw] did not realise that he would be ruling and so therefore just made up the ruling structure from his own mind. Therefore we can decide on any structure we wish! This is built on a very dangerous idea that contradicts the very Aqueeda of Islam. Allah [swt] has informed us that :
"He does not speak from his own desire, it is no less than revelation sent down to him" [tmq 53: 4]
So the manner in which rasoolAllah [saw] organised the ruling system is from revelation i.e. from Allah [swt] and the only Islamic method to implement the rest of the Shariah.
