In a speech of breathtaking hypocrisy and arrogance the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice this week spelled out to her audience in Cairo her vision for change in the Middle East. She described some political changes in different Arab regions and portrayed these selective anecdotes as signs of liberty and democracy sweeping the region. The most quoted section was as follows:
“For 60 years, my country, the United States, pursued stability at the expense of democracy in this region, here in the Middle East, and we achieved neither. Now we are taking a different course.”
Certainly it is true that for 60 years the USA has pursued a course of supporting tyrannical rulers who oppress their people and serve US interests well. Britain, France and other European powers have also done the same for a longer period. However Rice omitted her government’s continued support for tyrants across the Muslim world. Only this week the International Herald Tribune alleged that Uzbek troops, ordered by President Karimov to massacre thousands in Andijan in May 2005, were trained and equipped by the USA. In a similar vein the Scotsman newspaper has reported that British troops have held joint training with the Uzbeks. She omits staunch support of the US for Pervez Musharraf (indeed it is the only support he enjoys from any quarter) with whom the US allied for its massacres of Muslims in Waziristan and Wana.
Her hypocrisy further showed when she endorsed Egypt’s dynasty of US backed dictators, whose treachery is well known to the Ummah, when she said:
The United States values our strategic relationship and our strengthening economic ties with Egypt. And American presidents since Ronald Reagan have benefited from the wisdom and the counsel of President Mubarak, with whom I had the pleasure of meeting earlier today…
…And just three decades ago, it was Anwar Sadat who showed the way forward for the entire Middle East -- beginning difficult economic reforms and making peace with Israel.
It should not surprise us that despite her admission that western interference, the cause of so much misery to millions over decades by the initiation of and on going support for these regimes, has failed she insists that the US will go on interfering in the region to fashion ‘elected puppets’ regimes from elections that will careful exclude any real opposition to the US.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!
The Muslims of the world want liberation. Liberation from dictators like Mubarak, Karimov and Musharraf. Liberation from colonisation of our politics, economics, social life, education and popular culture. Liberation from the brutal occupation from the brutal occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.
The proof of this, as the United States well knows, is abundant. In the vacuum that occurred after the fall of Saddam, the first occasion the ‘Arab street’ could voice its opinion without fear of repression, Muslims united with a call: ‘No Bush, no Saddam. Yes, yes for Islam.’
The reason that tens of thousands have been imprisoned and tortured in Uzbekistan is because they want to be liberated from the darkness of dictatorship to the light of the Khilafah of Islam. Indeed all across central Asia this call resonates loudly.
Throughout Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia people dream of the return of the Khilafah on the method of Prophethood.
The Muslim Ummah wants liberation from western hegemony to an independent, self reliant, unified Khilafah Rashida – that rules by Shariah, with a ruler accountable to her citizens.
The US government knows this, and indeed the CIA have predicted this scenario for 2020, and that is why the United States is so aggressively pursuing this hypocritical and arrogant agenda in the Muslim world.
Our duty is to use our voices relentlessly to speak such truths as these: that the west needs to end her decades of interference in our lands, and that the Muslims desire to obey Allah and embracing Khilafah Rashida is the only political reform we are ultimately interested in. Our voice can be the voice of the oppressed Ummah on every TV and radio phone in, and in every newspaper, and on every demonstration so that our own mouths will witness for us on the Day of Judgement that we did not remain silent while others play with the lives of successive generations.
